RECOGNITIONS
East Grand Rapids High School received the 2019 College Success Award, a one-of-kind honor recognizing schools that excel in ensuring students are prepared for college, enroll in college and succeed once they get there. Great Schools recognized 1,713 public schools across 25 states that have a successful track record of graduating students who are equipped with tools they need to succeed in college and beyond, and are a model for other schools.

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. In 2019 U.S. News ranked East Grand Rapids High School #12 in the State of Michigan and #504 nationally, earning a silver medal. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.

Newsweek partnered with STEM.org to rank the top 5,000 Best STEM High Schools in America. The purpose was to determine which primary/secondary institutions in America best offer students experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while preparing them for post -secondary outcomes. This list includes schools in every region of the country that offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students. East Grand Rapids High School ranked 8th in the state of Michigan, and 841st nationally. Additionally, East Grand Rapids High School was the only school in Western Michigan to be in the top 50. According to Nancy Cooper, Newsweek Global Editor in Chief, "We need to make sure that innate drive, curiosity, and creativity aren't lost along the way. These high schools are helping to ensure American's future in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is in good hands." |
2020 Best High School:
Niche ranked East Grand Rapids High School #3 as the Best Public High School in the Grand Rapids area and #25 in the state. This ranking was achieved by scoring highly on standardized tests, student teacher ratio, the quality of colleges that a student considers and reviews from students and parents. EGR School District also received a #2 ranking for the best high school for athletics in the state. The Michigan Department of Education recognized EGRHS as a REWARD SCHOOL from 2012-15 for its placement in the top 5% of schools on the Top-to-Bottom list.

ACADEMICS
East Grand Rapids High Schools provides courses and educational opportunities that both challenge and support students. The wide variety of offerings and programs meet the unique needs and interests of our students.
EGRHS Course Offerings
Students at EGRHS take six courses each semester and are required to earn 23 total credits to earn a diploma,

Online and Dual Enrollment
MICHIGAN VIRTUAL: Students take an on-line class with a Michigan, highly qualified certified teacher, and have an assigned mentor from EGRHS for support. They work independently during their on-line hour. Grades are only calculated at the semester. Students may take up to two on-line courses per semester.
DUAL ENROLLMENT: Students who meet the qualifications for Dual Enrollment may enroll in college courses in addition to courses at the high school. Students who successfully complete the college course can earn credit for college. Students may take up to 10 dual enrolled classes in high school.
Kent ISD Program Offerings
KCTC: The Kent Career Technical Center at the Kent Intermediate School District provides vocational education and training for 22 different programs to juniors and seniors. Students apply to and attend the program during a portion of their school day. Students earn credits for their work at KCTC as well as for traditional classes completed at EGRHS. LAUNCH U: Launch U is offered through the partnership of Kent ISD and Grand Rapids Community College giving students an opportunity to earn a general Associate Degree, or a specialized Associate Degree in Mechanical Design at no cost, while earning their high school diploma. Students begin the program in 10th grade, continue through high school, and finish after one additional year at GRCC. To learn more about Launch U please click here.
